How to add complex names in document forms and individual profiles

For fields where only a single name can be entered:

If the person’s first, middle or last name contains a space, separate the names with commas.

Example: Kerry Anne Susan Mc Donald should be entered as Kerry Anne, Susan, Mc Donald

For fields where only a multiple names can be entered:

If the person’s first, middle or last name contains a space, separate the names with commas. Multiple individuals can be separated by semi colons.

Example: Kerry Anne Susan Mc Donald and John Paul Smith should be entered as Kerry Anne, Susan, Mc Donald; John Paul Smith

ASIC validation Rules:

The validation rules and character limits (max characters accepted for names in EDGE) applied to names by ASIC are as follows:

  • Last name - mandatory, max length 30 characters
  • First given name - mandatory, max length 20 characters
  • Second given name - optional, max length 20 characters
  • Third given name (which is considered as a middle name) - optional, max length 20 characters

ASIC accepts spaces in any of the above names, so you'll be able to submit names with a space when lodging documents with ASIC via the NowInfinity portal.

However, their are limitations within EDGE when finding names if they have spaces, so from time to time a lodgement may be rejected if the name can't be found in EDGE at a later stage.

Therefore, we recommend not using spaces in First names unless it can't be avoided.
